FEAST OF BLESSED MARY OF THE APOSTLES 2014
Feast of
Blessed Mary of the Apostles
On September 5, 2014 the Philippine Region celebrated the Feast of Blessed Mary of the Apostles, co-foundress of the Salvatorian Sisters. The regional superior, Sr. Irma Caumeran, SDS and some sisters from New Manila came to celebrate with the sisters’community in Tara and the local people. As it has always been, friends from Binmaley, Alaminos, and different barangays of Bolinao came to participate in the Eucharistic celebration and agape. Fr. Francis Ofrancia, chancellor of the Diocese was the main celebrant with Fr. Jose Mariano Ranera, RCJ concelebrating. On this day was also the blessing of the grotto located behind the chapel under the trees and orchids as well as the newly constructed waiting shed built by the barangay council. It was a wonderful day, worth- remembering and unending thanksgiving!
GOLDEN JUBILLEE OF RELIGIOUS PROFESSION
Three important events fell on the same day the whole Church honoured the Blessed Mother Mary on the feast of her Assumption to heaven on August 15, 2014. Our dear Sr. Jane Marie Apuan, SDS- first Filipina Salvatorian (at 88!) celebrated her golden jubilee (50th) of religious profession. On this same day was also the 13th year of foundation of the Salvatorian Pastoral Care for Children (SPCC). Sr. Belen Santiago, SDS also had her renewal of vows. Highlight of the triple celebration was the Holy Eucharist led by Fr. Gregory Coulthard, SDS, concelebrated by Fr. Vinoy Joseph Thottakkara, SDS and Fr. Leonardo Adaptar, CS. The relatives- Apuan family, friends and benefactors of the sisters were present to grace the occasion.
SALVATORIAN ANNUAL RETREAT 2014
We had our Annual Retreat from March 27 to April 2, 2014 which was held at St. Charles Borromeo Retreat House in Tagaytay City. Fr. Christopher Salonga, RCJ was our invited retreat facilitator.
Fr. Chris was a very effective facilitator and speaker. His talks/ input were focusing on how to live our vocation as happy and holy women religious. His rich experiences of community life gave him opportunities to share wisdom and insights of effective religious community living. Community life is indeed difficult and so he tried to expand each day's topic more wide-ranging. Some of his popular lines were: "It is not what happens to you but what happens in you..."good communities do not just happen, you make them happen" ... and " life favors those who take control- do not play the victim's role"
Our retreat was not only about prayer, meditation, reflection and soul-searching but also was filled with some joy and laughter as we often see ourselves in the examples of personalities he described. Indeed, how important it is to be happy, joyful and at the same time a holy religious in order to be truly life-giving like the DIVINE SAVIOR!
GENERALATE OFFICIAL VISITATION
HEARTY WELCOME! Our new general superior, Sr. Edith Bramberger, SDS and Sr. Lilly Kurien, SDS general councillor arrived here in the Philippines for official visitation on January 20, 2014. Sr. Irma Caumeran, regional superior and some sisters fetched them from the airport.
The visitators were able to visit the 5 communities in Cebu, Tara in Bolinao, Silang, Novaliches and Regional House in New Manila. It was good that the weather was still breezy and quite cool to keep them healthy. They saw the places where sisters served in different ministries. The whole region was grateful for this visitation because each member was able to talk to Sr. Edith and Sr. Lilly. We did appreciate their understanding and listening to our concerns. Indeed, it was a time of grace for the Philippine Region. They left on February 8, 2014.
